In September 2014 a combined Repton and Foremarke Equestrian Team was established and we became members of the NSEA – National Schools Equestrian Association. Riding is not new to Foremarke however this is the first time we have entered competitions at such a high standard. The children represent the schools at local and regional competitions in the disciplines of show jumping and dressage with some opportunities to enter hunter trials and one day events. Competitions take place throughout the year and regular practices enable the children to develop.
In September we entered our first Grass Roots competition run by Cheltenham Ladies College at Duntisbourne Abbots near Cirencester. Four children competed and came away with a team second and an individual sixth place in the first class and a team sixth place in the next class up which was a great achievement and meant we had qualified for the Grass Roots regional final in Herefordshire. At this event he team managed a very respectable sixth place in the first class. In the 50cm class the team performed exceptionally well and won a silver medal and an individual fifth place.
In October we had our first Hunter Trials courtesy of Winchester House School. Two teams entered and rode two rounds over some quite challenging natural fences which was a great experience and we all learned a lot.
Finally in the Michaelmas term a group of the more experienced Foremarke riders joined forces with Repton who had also entered teams in an NSEA Inter-School competition at Trent Valley. This included classes from 60 to 90cms. The Foremarke trio had a mixed day but gained valuable experience jumping some large fences and came away with an individual 6th place.
We are looking forward to planning more outings throughout the year.
