Cricket

The School runs A and B teams at U9, U10 and U11 levels and four senior XI’s. At 1st XI level Foremarke competes against all the major prep schools in the Midlands as well as in national competitions. We are fortunate to have an experienced and very knowledgeable coaching staff for all ages and levels, which of course is vital to the success of any sport.

The School has indoor net facilities as well as two full size wickets and an artificial pitch. We also use Repton’s facilities during games lessons and make full use of the outstanding coaching from Derbyshire CCC, with whom we have close links.

We have boys who regularly compete for their county at age group level, with some progressing onto Repton as potential 1st XI cricketers.

A Little About our Head of Cricket, Mr. Anthony Hobson.

Mr. Hobson’s passion for cricket emerged at Prep School. He then went on to Captain Shrewsbury School 1st XI, averaging over 60 with the bat and frightening opposition batsmen with his very occasional off spin! He represented the English Schools Cricket Association, before a brief flirtation with Derbyshire County Cricket Club. He then Captained the prestigious Stone Cricket Club, playing Minor Counties cricket for Staffordshire for nearly a decade.

In addition to this, Mr. Hobson has represented the Marylebone Cricket Club, touring European countries as well as India, Thailand, Malaysia and the West Indies. He has also Captained and played for the M.C.C. against Oxford and Cambridge Universities, Wales, Scotland, Ireland and Pakistan “A.”

He has coached children in nearly all of the countries that he has played in, as part of the M.C.C.’s “spirit of cricket” initiative. He has also served as an M.C.C. Area Representative and Staffordshire County Cricket Club Committee Member.

An experienced coach at school and club level, he takes great delight in witnessing the progression that Foremarke cricketers continue to make, at both county and regional representation.
