Athletics is a major sport for both boys and girls during the summer term. All boys and girls from Year 2 – 8 take part in many of the athletic disciplines during curriculum time. During the school’s activity programme children can also opt to participate on the Athletics field to develop their skills further. We aim to encourage all children to develop their skills and across the summer season improve their technique whilst thoroughly enjoying participating individually and as part of a team. We operate a gold, silver and bronze standard in line with English Schools Athletics to enable the children to track their progress and develop individually using the national standards.
Our annual school sports days provides the focus for the season where all children participate in a full house event. The IAPS regional event entered in June each year also enables children to participate in a large competition. As many pupils as possible are encouraged to aim for inclusion in their relevant age group team for such events. At the regionals pupils compete to gain qualification standards for the IAPs National event at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham.
Foremarke have had a great deal of success in the last few years and in 2014 we had 17 pupils represent the school; our largest team to date. Jolyon Leavesley also took the U11 National 800m title with an impressive run.
