Lower Prep

Lower Prep is a lively, vibrant learning environment, where lessons are taught in and outside of the form room. We have created a warm, open and stimulating atmosphere, where pupils are at the heart of our teaching and learning.

From rising 3s to Year 4, pupils are happy, confident learners, who thrive on the challenges presented. Experienced, enthusiastic teachers and Learning Enhancement Assistants ensure that pupils have a positive, enjoyable and memorable experience within Lower Prep.

Lower Prep consists of two campus on the School site. Lower Prep Garden is a purpose built building for Nursery, Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. Lower Prep Woodland consist of Year 3 and Year 4 and is situated on the ground floor of the Tom Davies building.

Lower Prep offers a curriculum which provides our pupils with skills and experiences that will form the foundation for their future learning.

All Lower Prep pupils benefit from the use of all school facilities, including the extensive 55 acre grounds. Wellies are a must in Lower Prep as we embrace all weathers and learn how much fun the outdoors can be, whether it be rain or shine.

Throughout Lower Prep, pupils benefit from lessons taught by specialist teachers.

From Nursery, pupils enjoy specialist Music and Drama.

From Reception, pupils benefit from Games lessons, where they are taught in the main Sports Hall, on the sports fields or on the astro turf.  They also benefit from specialist Swimming lessons, in our onsite pool, and form specialist French lessons.

From Reception, pupils can learn to play a musical instrument and their talents are displayed in concerts and assemblies throughout the year.

Pastoral Care

We recognise the importance of each pupil being happy and successful in school. To this end, we place great emphasis on pastoral care, ensuring that each child is secure and confident both in and out of the classroom. We recognise too that each pupil is an individual, with their own unique talents and personality. We get to know each one as an individual, nurturing their strengths and helping to develop other areas to allow them to reach their full potential.

We believe that a school is built on people. We are fortunate to have a very dedicated team of form teachers, who provide the main focus and support for each child.  We also have experienced Learning Enhancement Assistants who provide valuable support in our classrooms, organising and supervising practical activities or giving individual support to our pupils.

Transition to a new year group, key stage or campus is extremely important and a careful programme has been devised to ensure pupils move to their next year group fully prepared and with confidence.  We also ensure parents are fully supported and informed in this process.

The School Day

The school day is extended through a choice of activities. These include football, ballet, gymnastics, cricket club and clay modelling, board games, mindfulness and yoga.  As well as these, we provide an after school club, between 4pm and 6pm, where pupils can play and interact in a safe, familiar environment.

Throughout the year Lower Prep have a number of special days and celebrate key events. These include Harvest service, Christmas productions and Spring Celebration concert, as well as the Macmillan Coffee Morning, Sports Day and our own end of year Speech Day.

Parent Communication

We understand how important communication with parents is and take pride in the positive relationships we have created.  We hold Parent/Teacher meetings each term.  Parents can also arrange additional appointments at any time throughout the academic year to discuss their child’s progress. Parents also receive a report in the Michaelmas and Summer terms.

Parents receive a weekly newsletter, in which Lower Prep have their own section. Here, parents can see what pupils have been doing in and out of the form room. The following week’s learning objectives are also published which allows parents to be involved in their child’s learning. This provides an opportunity to talk about what has been happening in lessons and support their child’s learning at home.

We are very proud of Lower Prep and would welcome you to come and visit us for a tour of our wonderful facilities. We can also arrange for your child to attend a taster day to experience for themselves all that Lower Prep has to offer.
